Refugee Week 2020

Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who made Refugee Week 2021 such a joy. Thank you to those who attended our events, donated and shared on social media. If you didn't get a chance to see the We Cannot Walk Alone exhibition interview on ITV Meridian, you can view that here.

Refugee Week 2021

This year's theme for Refugee Week is 'We Cannot Walk Alone.' What does this mean? That we cannot do this alone, we require your help. To deliver assistance and lasting changes for refugees and asylum seekers in our community we must all work and walk together. Service providers, our refugee clients,  our ongoing supporters and the local community.

This year are very excited to be partnering with local photographer Philippa James whose exhibition shows the portraits of some of the incredible members of our Women's Service. These women strengthen each other and the community of Oxford by supporting each other and walking together.

Come and see the exhibition to walk with us too.

What else can you do to walk with us this Refugee Week?

Step One - Take Action

What can you do to take action? It might seem a little tricky right now while we still have some restrictions but there are plenty of ways you can support refugees in your local community, and the rest of the UK, this refugee week.

Come along to the incredible We Cannot Walk Alone exhibition being shown at the Old Fire Station.  We are very excited to be partnering with local photographer and artist Philippa James. The exhibition features portraits of some of the amazing women who are part of Refugee Resource's Women's Service.

Join the Simple Acts campaign. Refugee Week UK has created this campaign to inspire people, even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting act of change in the lives of refugees. Check out there page for some inspiration.#

Host a meal! Get six people together, or two households and cook a meal from one of our Women's Service recipe books. Or host the meal outside and have even more people. Have a look at our Host a Meal page for more ideas.

Read and learn. Education is such a powerful tool to understanding the experiences of others. Read through our website and take a look at other sites such as the Refugee Council and Refugee Action. Become as informed on refugee and asylum seeker matters as you possibly can.

Volunteer. We love our volunteers and couldn't do this without them. Check out our volunteering page for ways you can get involved.

Step Two - Share

Share what you have done, participated in or supported with your friends, family and colleagues. Let others know about Refugee Week and all the great things going on and how you have been participating. Do this through sharing on social media using the hashtags #refugeeweek2021 #wecannotwalkalone and #simpleacts

And please tag us on social media so we can see it and celebrate it too.

Step Three - Support

Finally, we are running the 'We Cannot Walk Alone' campaign to promote inclusivity and connect the community of Oxford with the refugees and asylum seekers making this city their home, but also to raise awareness of the important work we do to help refugees and asylum seekers with mental health support and other services enabling them to build a new life in the UK.

Include a Refugee Round in Your Quiz

This Refugee Week, we are encouraging people to take part in the #simpleacts campaign to show support and solidarity with refugees.

We know many people have been taking part in virtual Zoom quizzes while in lockdown, and back in the pubs now they have opened too, and if you taking part in one during Refugee Week why not include a refugee round.

We've done the prep for you! One of our volunteers has very kindly put together a 15-question multiple choice round on the theme of refugees.

Click here to download the questions in PDF form - this includes questions and answers as well as further information on Refugee Resource.

Click here to download the questions as a PowerPoint - this includes questions and answers as well as information about the answers and where they were sourced.
