Refugee Resource aims to relieve distress, improve well-being and welcome refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants in Oxfordshire. We provide a range of therapeutic and practical services to address the psychological and practical needs including post-trauma counselling and mentoring.
As a Trustee you will be as part of a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers, using your skills and experience to oversee our financial responsibilities and share in the delivery of our organisational strategy.
We seek to ensure that the ‘refugee’ perspective is represented at all levels of the charity and believe that our decision-making board should be fit for purpose, futureproof and bring a range of skillsets, perspectives and experiences. We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have experience in any of the following areas: working in mental health, safeguarding, fundraising and marketing or business development.
Trustees are volunteers and the position offered is unpaid. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. You must be at least 18 years old to be a Trustee and appointment is subject to eligibility in line with the Charity Commission criteria.

Psychotherapist/Counsellor Volunteer

Refugee Resource is seeking to recruit Psychotherapist/Counsellors
Working 1½ - 3 days per week
Refugee Resource aims to relieve distress, improve well-being and facilitate the integration of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants, mainly in Oxfordshire, by providing psychological, social and practical support.
Candidates must be a Qualified Counsellor/Therapist – Degree or Post Graduate. Working with refugees and asylum seekers and the issues that they face would be a distinct advantage.In the current rapidly changing context affecting refugees and asylum seekers on the one hand and the agencies working to support them on the other, Refugee Resource aims to deliver its current services to the very highest of standards and also to identify new initiatives that can further strengthen its service offer. Refugee Resource is also expanding the training it is paid to provide to other organisations on how best to work with refugees.

Mentoring Volunteers
We are looking for:

People who are available for 1 ½ to 3 hours per week or fortnight in Oxford and Banbury area. Mentoring relationships usually last for up to 12 months - so we are looking for people who can commit for this length of time, in order to provide consistent and regular support for the person they are paired with. We offer induction training and ongoing reflective practice support for for this volunteer role.

General volunteering information
We encourage people from a variety of backgrounds to volunteer either as mentors or with projects. No expert skills or knowledge are required but good communication skills are important.

We ask volunteers

to commit dedicated time over a period of at least six months

to adhere to Refugee Resource’s policies on: Confidentiality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, and Health and Safety (these will be available at the information evening or during training)

to give permission for a Criminal Records Bureau (DBS) check.
