To provide a culturally appropriate and sensitive counselling service to refugees and asylum seekers. This service is aimed at empowering and facilitating the integration of refugees and asylum seekers into existing communities in Oxfordshire.

Communications Volunteer Needed

Role:               Communications Volunteer

Funding:         Volunteer                          

Hours:             Flexible 4 – 8 hours per week

Timescale:      6 to 12 months - flexible

Reports to:      Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator

Location:         Flexible Home/Office-based East Oxford

Closing date:   21st of March

We are looking for a communications volunteer to assist with our communications, fundraising and events. We anticipate that your time will be spent assisting the Communications and Fundraising Co-ordinator with communications to new and ongoing supporters as well as supporting with fundraising events.

Volunteering opportunities update

There are volunteering opportunities available with various services at Refugee Resource, including the Mentoring Service, the Women's Service, Social Inclusion and in marketing and fundraising. Opportunities listed here vary dependent on current needs, and we do regularly update this information so please check again in future if there is nothing suitable at present.

Trustees

We are currently looking for new trustees to join our Board of Trustees with a strong human resources background, a refugee background or mental health practitioner specialism. Please click here​ for further information. 

Mentoring

We are looking for:

  • People who are available for 1 ½ to 3 hours per week or fortnight. Mentoring relationships usually last for up to 12 months - so we are looking for people who can commit for this length of time, in order to provide consistent and regular support for the person they are paired with.  We offer induction training and ongoing reflective practice support for for this volunteer role.

General volunteering information

We encourage people from a variety of backgrounds to volunteer either as mentors or with projects. No expert skills or knowledge are required but good communication skills are important.

 

We offer volunteers

 

  • training

  • expenses

  • ongoing support from the Mentoring Coordinator or Project Workers

  • regular support group meetings.

 

We ask volunteers

 

  • to commit dedicated time over a period of at least six months

  • to adhere to Refugee Resource’s policies on: Confidentiality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, and Health and Safety (these will be available at the information evening or during training)

  • to give permission for a Criminal Records Bureau (DBS) check.
