Our services

Our mission is to build meaningful lives as part of the wider community for refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants. We welcome referrals from asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants of all ages in Oxfordshire and from professionals and agencies supporting them. Our referral forms are available here.

Counselling and psychotherapy

Thanks to the funding we receive, we can offer counselling and psychotherapy free to asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants in Oxfordshire who are experiencing mental or emotional distress. We work with individuals, couples and families. We typically work with individuals, couples and families aged 12 and over. Children and young people aged under 12 can access it with a parent or guardian accompanying them. One of our clients told us;

I did not know what therapy was when I started. Talking has been great – I am so thankful. I questioned myself whether to open up about my trauma or not, and when I did open up it made me feel relieved. It gave me hope in my life and I feel more free.

Our counsellors are fully qualified and experienced. Appointments are usually one hour a week. The frequency of appointments is mutually agreed upon in accordance with needs but appointments are usually weekly, fortnightly, or monthly with regular reviews. We provide interpreters if needed. We are happy to talk with you about what counselling is.

Mentoring

Our mentoring programme provides one-to-one support for asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants aged 13 and over living in Oxfordshire. We match clients with volunteer mentors and support regular meetings over 12 months. Participants are matched with volunteer mentors who have completed our training programme.

Mentors regularly meet up with participants to identify goals, increase confidence, enable independence and reduce isolation.

Social Inclusion

We provide opportunities for asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants to meet in groups. Currently we run a women’s group every Monday and a football group for young men twice a week. We regularly add new activities, so please get in touch to find out what is on offer right now.

We also provide practical support and signposting to our clients to help them to resolve issues they face.

Training

Refugee Resource provides training, supervision and consultation to teams and individual practitioners working with refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants affected by trauma and loss.

In partnership with Oxford Brookes University we run an accredited level 7 course for frontline professionals in all sectors working with refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants.
